1 Big Mistake I Made When I Was First Getting Started In Clean Energy
Like most beginners, I made a lot of mistakes when I first started working in clean energy.
But this was the biggest one, by far:
I assumed climate action moves everyone
Here's what happened:
When I started in clean energy, I assumed fighting catastrophic climate change moves everyone. But beginning in sales, talking on the phone to different folks about choosing renewable power like wind and solar, I learned quickly: everyone's got a different reason.
We talked about utility bills and childhood asthma. Clean air and mercury pollution. Local jobs and justice. So it's worth appreciating that overturning this assumption taught me a ton.
I learned to listen to understand clean energy choices.
This is why I encourage everyone to share what moves us to change, and treat mistakes (and "failures") as opportunities to learn
to change ourselves to change the world.
