3 Books Everyone Should Read To Lead With Climate Hope
Over the past decade, I’ve read stacks of books on the subject of climate change, the science, solutions, forecasts, fictions, and hope.
Unfortunately, many of them were a terrifying sink of time. Sometimes saying the same thing. Some could have easily been blog posts, or even newsletter emails.
Instead, I encourage you to give these 3 a read.
They're well worth your time.
Book #1: Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown
I first read this book in 2020. Then, like so many, I was fumbling around dwells of despair, and this book uplifted and focused my thinking towards action.
And here's why you'll love it: chock-full of wisdom to “change ourselves to change the world” inspired by science fiction, biomimicry, feminist, and afro-futurist ideas, adrienne maree brown’s thinking is simply brilliant, her writing is clarifying, and the way she honors and provides portals to a host of other leaders in this space extends your learning journey. Here’s a blog where I share my full Emergent Strategy takeaways:
Book #2: Saving Us: A Climate Scientist's Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World by Dr. Katharine Hayhoe
This book had been on my list… ever since I heard of climate communication maven Dr. Katharine Hayhoe + and knew she would be publishing a book.
Here's why I think you'll love it: I could not speak highly enough about what I’ve gained on communicating climate reality from the heart, a number of skills and practices, just by following Dr. Katharine Hayhoe. Her book, Saving Us, is a breath of carbon-free fresh air with so many tips, anecdotes, and science cited, narrated as an engaging toolkit of frameworks for anyone to communicate climate science and solutions with a value-based approach.
There’s more here I’ve share on Dr. Katharine Hayhoe’s impact:
Book #3: Not Too Late: Changing the Climate Story from Despair to Possibility, edited by Rebecca Solnit & Thelma Young
Finally, I think everyone should read this book. It’s a newly published collection from the TOP luminaries in climate solutions, available from Haymarket Publishing April 4th, 2023.
And here's why I think you'll love it: it’s giving pure courage, truth, justice, hope, and the renewable energy to keep fighting onwards within every single page. Laced with authenticity and clarity. Not Too Late is truly a phenomenal collection with the brightest minds in the climate justice space— I promise this will fill you with the feeling of a new golden day dawning.

What about you, what do you think? Read any good books on climate hope you’d recommend? Let me know!
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.
