7 Things I Wish I Knew A Decade Ago About Working in Climate & Clean Energy
Reflecting on a Decade of Working in Climate & Clean Energy
If I could go back in time, these are the 7 things I wish I knew about working in climate and clean energy.
(It would have saved me a lot of wasted time and effort.)
1. World's BEEN changing
Like energy. Like climate. Like eras. An agricultural era, an industrial era, a digital era. Now we're changing again— growing a new era of sustainability.
2. Ongoing intersectional organizing is key
Whether in activism or work, collaborating to include and uplift more empowers all.
3. Partner with broad messy coalitions to get it done
Not everyone is in it for the same benefit, and that's OK. But everyone can still help.
4. Your recorded documentation builds foundations
The bits and bytes we put into the world at work form legacy and leverage.
5. Great teams are like renewable powered-smartgrids
Interconnected. Transmitting. Distributed. Powerful. Electric. Clean-Energized.
6. Unplug frequently, enjoy the journey, and have fun
Life is too short and our energy transition too long. Take the time to care for yourself.
7. Study the history of social justice movements
Working to make this great turning is a pioneering group project history can guide.
