Monday welcomes August with average temperatures (mid-80s °F highs / mid-70s °F lows), middling-to-moderate-high humidity, & a fairly dry start. Slight isolated shower chances could cross your path on the commute home, creeping along a light breeze.
Week-ahead, temperatures rise with more sun through midweek. DC has seen rising emissions raise temperatures as stagnant summer days simmer with more health risks— where sweltering heat packs even more pollutants parceled into the air we breathe. Accordingly, air quality locally looks to worsen slightly with ozone-moderate into the week-ahead.

🌞 🚴🌡️🐦 Tuesday’s sunnier & warmer, singing this simmering tune through the week until an incoming front Friday. Take advantage of the cooler dawn/dusk hours as heat increases. It'll be beautiful morning-walk or cycling-commute weather. For now– your short-sleeves & lighter fits will feel the most fabulous, especially as the mugginess turns-up in humidity & dew points.

BLUE HYDRANGEA SKIES SONNET
Wednesday, bright heat adds more tallies to count
days above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
these highs feel hotter near DC's downtown
where greenery lacks & asphaltery slights
Urban Heat Islands traced by racist-
redlining absorb the hate as more heat,
warmth held by concrete corners retains it
on fossil-fueled heatwave highs. Along streets
you can feel the community cut-up
through Wednesday's light wind, where even petals
sweat on flowers looking downwards. Skies shrug
back a harsh need, like they're rare earth metals.
Wednesday's hydrangea blue skies heat & crisp,
as dry petals curl into a tight fist.

🥵☀️🧢🌡️🌇 Thursday’s extremely hot: upper-90s°F - feeling degrees hotter in humidity, 10-20 degrees hotter in heat islands. Evening may cloud some, with still not enough breeze. Climate Central’s climate shift index shows this moderately influenced by fossil-fueled warming:
I tell you this every fossil-fueled heatwave:drink water, go with care, lessen exposure
planning errands during dusks and dawns,
reduce time in blazing daylight, grow cool-
ing centers to keep bodies from overheat-
ing, fight the forces of extraction & greed,
rock loose lightweight clothes, keep to the
shady-side walking in shadows if outside.
What do you share with your neighbors/
friends for all to get through and thrive?

Friday’s partly sunny & in T-shirts & shorts with humidity rising & temperature highs in the low-90s°F / feeling 5-10°F hotter in the heat index mix / which feels 10-20° hotter in heat islands.
Friday’s giving pressure cooker, with steamy storm chances late-afternoon which could produce winds turning to possible gusts & a small chance of small hail. Expect Saturday & Sunday to turn similar looks: hot, humid, partly cloudy— all energizing forces frenzying through the morning into chances of scattered afternoon rain & thunderstorms.
Monday, August 8th, 2022
Monday rises heavy under the weight of heat, humidity, global temperatures rising rapidly, & sun-stretched skies. I always advise wearing loose light fits in heat extremes, which could catch a bit in Monday’s fair breeze. Remember to drink plenty of water. If without A/C, find an accessible cooling center, & travel out near dusk/dawn if possible.
As rising global fossil fuel emissions have caused temperatures to rise— all that hot air also holds more moisture. Be aware & prepare for DC’s part of this moist heat to stir up chances of more dangerous showers & thunderstorms through midweek. Fortify, keep fighting, stay cool, & leave no one behind.

HOT SONNET II
Tuesday is both hot and humid— again.
A new day in the era of Both-And.
Where heat blends both sun and clouds in morning.
Where we can both find gains and be opened
to the harm in both the warmth and the storm
chances— both isolated and heavy
rainfall possible, DC's late-day forecast warns.
Eve-commutes could be both wet and sweaty.
It’s that idiom - on both blessings and curses,
like binding both offshore wind and pipelines,
which belies– who gets blessed? who emerges?
who gets cursed? Folks historically sidelined
get sacrificed for Both-And ripples in puddles,
but for a just transition– for this we must never settle.

☀️🚲🌤️🥵⛈️☂️ Charged air threads through DC the last few days into Wednesday, bringing a frenzy of warm/wet energy. Whether wet air or sunlight, saturation begins early, with sun shining shakes of strong sunbeams spreading & sliding down through increasing humidity. Steaming skies with near-90°F temp highs drift & wilt clouds forming closer & darker in seemingly calm winds. By afternoon, you’ll want to take shelter or grab your umbrellas & prepare for the damp inside of rain slickers to stick to sweating skin trekking through the rain. Watch for likely rainfall turning heavy to downpours & flooding in areas, as well as possible thunderstorms.

🌧️🪷☁️🚴🏾♀️⛅🐟🌕 Thursday turns DC's week towards drier skies & more pleasant rides. Your transformation starts with stray lingering morning showers helping break the fossil-fueled heatwave & finally letting temperatures settle into lower (mid-80s°F) highs than you’ve seen all week. By afternoon, moderate humidity also drops to lower levels as light breezes bring dry air into fairer weather. The turn completes in cooler nighttime lows (upper-60s°F), with the full sturgeon moon swimming bright through your nighttime sky.

☀️ Your weekend dazzles: Friday’s
mostly sun-drenched & -dappled
mostly low-80s°F high temps tassel
in brilliantly low (for DC) humidity
even breezes heave sighs of relief
blowing a solar wind illuminating
large into a night sky, full moon- &
persied meteor shower-charged.
☀️ Somehow Saturday pulls forward
that shining power, for some perfect
pool-going bike-ridng recharging
justice organizing sun smiling sunrays,
one of those delightlyfull expectant
metaphor days proving sunlight is
the best disinfectant. It’s giving electrified
& clean energized, but as a feeling inside.
⛅ Sunday’s still in the rose gold
temperature zone, with possible
afternoon showers dampening this run
of clean & renewable DC solar power.

🌂 🌧️ ☔⛈️ Monday feels cloud-cloaked and smells rainfall-fresh. Distinctly different cool air will welcome you with temperature highs in the mid-70s°F and nighttime lows in the mid-60s°F. Starting in morning skies, a new day dawns, a new week yawns, and a new era invigorates skylines. Though Monday’s giving dreary, it’s not so dark as to cloud the metaphorical solar shining on the horizon. Have an umbrella on-hand to stay dry getting by through scattered showers. And stay alert for possible heavier downpours, flooding, and thunderstorms.
Thanks for all you do to center justice combating climate change.

⛅🚇🪷🌤️🚲 Tuesday morning, clouds converge in mild air with a slight AM chance of showers. Humidity becomes moderate with a conversational breeze throughout the day. By afternoon, temperatures may warm to highs in the mid-80s°F as sunlight, noon-blues, & bright shards poke through skies. Good day as any to see sunlight emerging as solar-metaphor for whatever empowers you.

☀️🌳🚲🌤️ Wednesday’s a satin Summer hump from morning’s gauzy blues in fresh air to afternoon’s warmth collected in curled moderately-humid currents. There’s the barest chance of a stray shower from a rogue cloud PM. Still— get out, bike about, & breathe in some bliss. Give yourself some Wednesday grace before getting back to organizing for real climate action.

Thursday’s mostly sunny, not-so-humid,
pleasantly warm, anomalously cool—
rare DC’s late-Summer air is so lucid.
But you already know why— it’s the spool
of sunthreads unwinding brightshine across
Morning to Afternoon skies. Okay, so—
there could be some clouds expected to gloss
skylines and low-shower-chance breezes blow
by the way. Solar visions shine clearer
with this US climate legislation
struggling to bring fossil-free nearer,
the fight’s sunlit, in us, in every sense, in
the feeling of a future built by care:
welcome to the clean energy era–
🌐🌞🌻♻️🚲🔌⚡🌎Besides Friday’s warm/mixed-sky forecast, here’s what else comes next:
Friday, August 19th, 2022
⛅ Friday: fickle skies fill morning with splatters of sunlight, midday with a growing clouds, and midnight with possible thunderstorms. Likely your warmest yet least-humid part of weekend with highs near-90°F.
🌧️ Saturday: damp skies are giving wet look early in possible showers and thunderstorms; depending on the overnight low-pressure system’s trajectory, rain could isolate and scatter.🌂
⛈️ Sunday: dark skies are sweatier and slicker, with likely rain showers and thunderstorms expected— it’s certainly a keep-an-umbrella-by-the-door just-in-case weekend.☂️
Monday, August 22nd, 2022
☁️🌂🌧️🚌☂️⛈️ Monday slicks & sops in soft-lit gray-blue warm clouds & wisps. There’s an abundance of atmospheric moisture clinging to all the carbon, you get it. In high DC-humidity, makes for the kind of clumsy clouds that may clear for parts midday — held in the breeze’s balance — before tripping over itself tussled into a cartoon spin of splatter, dark & thunder stewing. All to say, I’m keeping an umbrella in my backpack for isolated showers & thunderstorms possible for the PM commute, too.

🌤️🌎🐦📣🚲 Another day dawns in our age of change— Tuesday. Sweeping some clouds onward to clearer skies; though not removing the stray chance of rain altogether, Tuesday gestures away the thick wetness of the air. Exchanging some of that humidity for more midday-sunned warmth so all hours sun won’t touch feel airer compared to recent quagmires. With mid-to-upper 80s°F highs, it seemed like DC’s turned the corner on the swampiest sweat-er weather— but stay looking fab in your light-fits: this week looks to keep sun-warmed late-Summer vibes alive.

☀️🚴🏿♂️🌞📣 🌇
Once upon a Wednesday in Washington, DC
Your forecast journeys into upper-80s°F highs and sunny
Skies— early morning dawn yawns a slow-fade sunrise
Bright/white/blue-ombre beckoning bike rides
Across time, into another age, like– just last year
When there were no guarantees of any climate bill near
When only so few knew, what was working into this exchange
How now sunlight’s on how Justice and Equity are the only way:
Home, as in, for everyone, as in “NO SACRIFICE ZONES”
We repeat, towards true fossil-freedom, louder in our bones

🌤️🌳⛅🚴🏿♂️☁️ 🌇 Humidity starts-out moderate for DC Thursday, with skies beginning sunnier, then melting mugginess through the day. Afternoon should bring the barest breeze with more clouds along the way. The heat index mix will make you sweat, so gulp plenty of water and slay in your lightweight fits. DC’s air quality forecasts moderate ozone levels Thursday into Weekend; if sensitive to ozone, consider reducing the amount of time you’re active outdoors.
Here’s what I’ve been reading up on:
Friday, August 26th, 2022
🌤️🌂⛈️🚇☁️🌑 Friday says a prayer for your weekend clasped between partly cloudy horizons, day-long rising humidity, & possible scattered storms. You hear this uttered in breezy Southwest winds, echoing a similar forecast through Saturday & Sunday: again, early sun to bake & hum humid, 90°F-high-heated-hopes through the district, with the slightest stray shower chances into late-Summer skies. At night, a new moon in their midnight shawl joins the growing circle, adding to the round: may maps making apparent all the injustice, all the lack, the abandonment, & climate impacts— may these guide investments to the greatest effect, making the most of the Inflation Reduction Act.

🌤🥵☀️🚌🌇 Steamy sunrise scene. Sunny morning gleams. Monday warm with sweat. Another heavy heat index. In 90°Fs-highs again. So when out don’t over exert. Especially if heat- or air-sensitive: with both a moderate ozone alert & high in pollen parts. Afternoon’s solar & ambient. When muggy energy radiates. Bouncing vibes may gust in PM hours. Straying a tiny chance of shower. Please remember to drink water.
Your word of the day is Crepuscular (cre·pus·cu·lar) adjective - your best times of day in a simmering DC Summer to get around outside (i.e. dawn & dusk hours) 🦝🌄
Tuesday, August 30th, 2022
🌫️⛅🥵⛈️☂️ Tuesday’s late-Summer swamp sings a dew-doused & sweat-dripping song. Morning may flatten fat swaths of fog into streets early, potentially reducing visibility. But mid-morning moisture lifts into partly cloud-steamed skies that mug-about into darker, huddled forms. Another tally to this week-run of DC day-highs above 90°F & hellish heat indexes is hard enough, but all that energetic tension in the sky is expected to also cook into evening scattered showers & thunderstorms. Stay umbrella-ready, heat-ready, hydrated, healthy, & fighting for a fossil-free future.

☀️🐝🚴🏿♀️🌳🌞 Late-Summer, full of grace, laces less humidity & heat through the rest of the week. Though Wednesday’s still smiling sun-warmed, that’s because there’s less sweat. Expect mid-80s°F highs with that lack of mugginess and cloudiness that makes DC skies sing. Like a halo-rimmed reminder shining mostly solar, saying: thank you— what you do matters.
I’m struck by the same clear sky, too. Well, mostly clear. Peering through adder after adder of IRA solar tax credit, a brightness takes shape. You’ve seen it: a vision of our future full of solar for all: solar bus stops, solar canals, solar reservoirs, solar nonprofits, solar churches, solar mosques, solar synagogues, neighborhood solar dialogues, abundant community solar for renters, growing solar communities— for healthier future opportunities.
