All of November’s Poetic Climate & Weather Forecast Updates
Monday, November 1st, 2021
Monday’s sunny skies spread like tassels hanging from the tip of DC’s scarf, with this week’s weather wrapping around from a thin couple evening clouds, threaded with a northwest 10-15mph wind. A seasonably seasonable day for the season, or a beautiful day to absorb it all outdoors before the week tugs a chunky chord of colder days our way. Monday’s also November, so gain your layers alongside trees losing theirs; blushing sky will feel brightest around 2 pm, complimenting their careful arrangement of autumn (human-rearranged) colors— chlorophyll-chromatic, solar-fantastic, and wind-shared.

A freeze watch issued for some MD & VA burbs Monday Night. Tuesday’s wearing their cloudy skies down, draped around as covering, expecting colder temperatures to bring district-wide low-fifties highs. Showers are likely to sputter occasionally through midday. Calm northwest winds breeze-by, gently tugging at the sky’s sleeve as if to say, “you SURE we’re going the right way?”
Directional questions hang in the air, in the balance between the cold-wet local layer and the world’s carbon-heated atmosphere. One local lever you have is pulling out your rain gear and winter clothing. And one global lever you have is signing this petition to support youth climate activists demanding world leaders face the climate emergency.

Frost advisory again Tuesday night for the area. So take care of tender plants and prep pipes accordingly.
Wednesday turns their head a tilt, smiling your way. Brightening like a chill annoying morning sunbeam. Keeping a mostly sunny disposition through the day, a few clouds do nothing but adorn Wednesday’s afternoon composure with shifting angles. Lightly sketched composition of the weathered living. In the same way, Art Reflects Life, our Artful Autumn Day reflects …
Ours to interpret - so here’s some recent climate art to reflect:
- “Ain’t Your Mama’s Heatwave Comedy Special”
- Mosaic Theater “Birds of North America”
- “Can I Live? / Complicité” Fehinti Balogun

Thursday’s its own DC monument to Autumn: columns of sunshine and clouds surround, tall-standing bright-washed marble blues poking from out around. Grand blanking facade, pock-marked with green and brown and gold leaves kicking their heels in the light northwest wind. Which should help to shake the clouds of the etch-a-sketch sky, cleared for evening’s grandeur.
If you can, there’s a 6 AM “We Want to Live” mobilization Thursday morning supporting the Hunger Strike for Climate Justice. Layer-up if you’re out there then as it’ll be in the 30s, and moreover: thank you! For all you do for climate justice.

Friday’s chirping clear and full of sun, with a chill emo night slouching under a new moon. The weekend’s looking similar, a couple degrees warmer, but bringing cloudage.
Also - Sunday ends Daylight Savings (Clocks→ Back). I say this not only as a functional reminder but also as a resonant metaphor: the SAME corporate lobbying group blocking bold congressional climate action now was behind Daylight Savings. Created for Energy Saving Reasons but actually… increasing consumption? HUH, feels familiar…
To clock these clowns, let’s CALL👏NONSENSE👏OUT👏. Join @ChangeUSChamber’s campaign here to easily and regularly call out these pro-fossil fools. We’ll save our own sunlight, thank you.

Starting Monday, this week is going a bit above average: Highs in the high-60s (maybe reaching 70), Lows in the mid-40s. As if Autumn’s attempted advance across November has been slowed by a kind passerby asking to pet their dog. Kneeling down to pet, and getting tackled to the ground.
With bright, panting Sun overhead all-day, and a nuzzling breeze up to 10mph, Monday gets up to chase the week. “A bit above average” doesn’t mean the starting tip and tail ends of our days aren’t chilly, so layer up as needed to maintain home and homeostasis.

Tuesday continues their sunny and warmer-than-average stalk through DC’s week: pointing their muzzle skyward in anticipation of a gorgeous Autumn afternoon, rubbing their back into the breeze to confirm the nice weather’s really happening, then lingering in the window-paned sun long enough to break 70s.
I try to be so bold, from the chilled edges of our days, to follow Tuesday’s sudden leap into higher temperatures. But I vary wearing and on/off carrying a lighter layer, trying not to put too much sweat in “Sweater Weather.” By evening, Tuesday curls partly cloudy back about the place unbothered by the calm wind.

Wednesday squirrels into this week’s warmer temperature range, with mainly sunny skies dashing through the day. Evening skitters down fence tops, from the afternoon high of almost 70°F to 50s and partly cloudy, winds light.
Another gorgeous Autumn day. As any, great day for our squirrel congress to invest in a future for all, instead of just a bill to store away a few acorns and fix a few powerlines for a few to survive the season. While some come to expect gridlock between black and brown squirrels (who don’t even represent all of us!), we know a better future is possible. So we keep pushing squirrel friends, calling for climate action now.

Thursday (Veterans Day) is a confluence of forces. Still warm-ish, but with morning roaring some sun and clouds together and showers scattering through the afternoon to evening with half an inch of rainfall.
Extending yesterday’s nutty squirrel congress metaphor— to the other convergence of creatures happening across the pond— we see another animal house also not doing enough. So-called leaders lacking courage to #FaceTheClimateEmergency. So clarion calls rise. From youth, indigenous, and frontline activists, the moral demand for climate justice beckons. Let’s join and help amplify:
1. Sign this emergency appeal petition for climate action
2. Write a #BuildBackFossilFree Letter to the Editor with @FightFossils
3. Join The People’s Filibuster with @ShutDown_DC Nov 14th-15th

Monday, DC is windy. With 15-25mph and higher gusts possible
Brown, yellow, and red dead leaves blowing make it audible
Chills frost-tip the early and late ends of Monday in 30s that don’t go much farther
Than the 40s in the windswept sun. With only a high of 50 in Autumn’s fervor
So cover and coat your day with solace from sunny skies
In light jean jacket blues with buttons reflecting bright
In your resolve, bundle-up, wrap your scarf around like a sunray

Tuesday falls across DC with a sunshine and cloud mix
Tripping into the horizon, bag-spilling gold light and gray gimmicks
6mph winds still cityscape through with a chill, but calmer than yesterday,
Collecting a couple of degrees for us in the lead-up to a warm Wednesday
When sunrise is also near 6:52AM
And sunset is also around 4:53PM
Regardless of take (The Planet’s: HOT), surprising or unsurprising
Turn, change, spin. Here we are, World. With the Sun. Ever rising.

Wednesday, warmth peaks over Washington, DC
With highs in the mid-60s, lows in the low-50s
South/South Easterly winds make for 3-8mph breezes
Encouraging clouds to leap around as the sun teases
Sunbeams poke you asking “do you wanna piece?”
You best take them up on it before the clear evening
Before light, colors, temps, get caught in Autumn’s metamorphosis
Go on and grab yourself some of Wednesday’s gorgeousness.

Forgive me for declaring Wednesday as heat peak for the week
Our climate changed world will let Thursday take that cake
“Let them eat” she says, serving a high-in-the-70s day, afternoon damp
Mixture of sun, clouds, and showers amid warmth - feels kinda camp
This late in November, as 10-20mph winds sashay and possible gusts sway
Evening may clear-up, but shower chances start after midday
Which reminds me of the water cycle, of all the cycles of life at-risk
Like local land and livelihoods, why bold climate action is needed quick.

Friday is for change - back to more-normal November temps, as in
Friday is forecast to be degrees colder, a shock to the senses
Friday is for layering-up, against 10-20mph winds and 30s-40s°F chill
Friday is for facing climate change, finding the way and the will
Friday is for interconnecting, sun to solar systems to all soon
Friday is for reflecting, evening under a Beaver full moon
Friday is for envisioning, tree-equity, sustainable transit, too
Friday is for actioning, where we can change today, we do
Friday’s for grounding, in warm hearts with outside cooler

“Remember to layer” Monday says to DC, as a hopeful prayer. Better obey her. With what cold sunlight comes through early cloudy air and shower chances, there’s a stacking on temperatures in the 30s-40s°F. Early 10-20mph winds becoming fair. A wintry energy expected to linger, coming off of Sunday’s cold front conveyor. At least clouds should clear-some Monday later.
“I don’t just mean clothes or weather” Monday adds, soothsayer. Even though she doesn’t owe us any favors. It’s just her nature. So climate allayers and imaginaires multilayer horizon-long, stacking beauty acres-cross like creators: with equity, community, sustainability, and care.

“Thanks” Tuesday shouts with a cold glare. Temperatures between 30s-40s° F, skies sunny and clear. Reading the headline “Metro customers can expect to see current (reduced) rail service levels through December 31”.
Tuesday lets out a big sigh, with the coldest breath of Autumn so far settling across the tops of row homes down to chill the ankles of every DC monument. Northwest winds pshaw-ing between 9-14mph, with gusts guffawing as high as 20mph.
“For everything” Tuesday adds with a tone of genuine care. So instead of dwelling in despair, Tuesday’s planning to brighten and inspire. For everything.

“Appreciate you” Wednesday warms a bit with a smile. Thanks from the cold dawn to the brisk day. Thanks the chill light winds and slow-spinning leaves. Thanks each breath shared with trees. Thanks the coming clouds that hug afternoon sky. Thanks the renewable revolution growing nigh. Thanks every activist and creature doing some part. Thanks more-normal November 30s-50s°F day from the heart. Thanks the way forward, folks reflecting, connecting, and repairing harm. Thanks the rest of the week’s weather, mostly sun-chilled confirmed. Thanks hyggeligt, life in everything, our solar abundance. Thanks for your focus on climate justice.

Dearly beloved, we gather here together to say our Goodbyes-For-Now to Meteorological Fall.
Here they chill on this fair Tuesday, short yet loud, in the morning clouds shaking-off the early 30s dawn.
Dangling their heels bridgeside at Rock Creek, Tuesday’s milestone catches your sight from afar.
So you make a day of it, strolling together to find the crunchiest leaf piles by when afternoon’s brighter.
Under partly sunny skies, with a slight 1PM warm-up between high-40s to low-50s, not much higher.
Yet another “Until We Meet Again,” when Meteorological and Climatological seasons cross paths in the collider.

Wednesday, we welcome to the world a newborn bundle of Meteorological Winter joy. Welcome! The day’s topped with a few furries that leap and whirl in the early dawn, which quickly flutter-away. For Wednesday’s riding in a basket of mild warmth soaring through a week expected to see mid-50s temperature highs, back in the 60s come Thursday.
But for now, still scarf-up as needed. Don’t forget to stretch before you feel stiff. Drink water before you feel dehydrated. And drink-up partly cloudy skies above before a clearer evening starts. In renewable warmth, we welcome Winter with full hearts

Thursday’s wild in the way the weather’s so mild: it all starts partly sunny in the 40s, but once we’re up and buzzing about our days, DC joins the rest of the US in this week’s widespread relative December warmth. The early 40s break mid-morning into 50s. Then around noon, a breeze helps haul-in more warmth, with winds picking up to 10-15 mph during the latter half of the day. You’ll feel your strongest Midas touch to the golden edge of low-60s from around 2 PM to sunset (4:46 PM). Let’s make the most of this warm wave while onwards together for all we can save.
Friday, December 3rd, 2021
Friday carries forward some of the week’s warmth for another relatively mild day: temperature lows back in the high-30s, highs in the mid-50s. Sunrays stretch-taut to touch your cheek; clouds-too, extend to caress the sky with light streaks.
If what they say is true, and there’s indeed a season for everything— let this then, our season of perpetually chapped lips, also be our season of more joining our climate journey coming to grips; let the season of evermore mutual aid to save ever-more’s days — be our season for inner hygge lit warmth expressed-forth in transformative change.
