An Animated Autumn Week in Washington, DC
Monday, September 27th, 2021
🌞 At the start of your Monday in DC, your sweater will sweet talk you into wanting to spend all day together— but don’t! Early, a light layer in enjoyable mostly sunny sixties could be lovely, sure— but later? You’d be sweating in said sweater in gorge late-day seventies-to-low-eighties weather.
You can carry what your sweater gives in care and flair, without actually wearing or carrying them into your afternoon, by leaving them behind. Instead, take a thread of your Monday midday to breathe: feel the warm up to 10mph low-humidity breeze wrap around like the comfort of your hand-me-down.

🌤️Tuesday’s serving a confused seasonal beverage for Washington, DC: mixing mostly sunny skies with scattered rain showers midday-through to evening. Afternoon could seem Summery, like the last drops of last season at the bottom of your glass, what with the low-eighties high peak for the week– half-full. At the same time, you’ll taste the Autumnal notes beckoning you to nod along with the impermanence, what with Sunset creeping up from 7PM to cut our days darker– half-empty.
However much – and whatever flavor you taste Tuesday – every drop energizes. Toast one to DC’s renewable progress and remember Tuesday is the DC Clean Energy Summit.

🌞Wednesday’s not here just to look pretty or play, they’re here to give your first full Autumn weather day. Your scarf, cool and free in sunny sixties, will reach above your head to high five a tree then wrap back down around your side to flutter in the 5-10mph breeze behind. Ahh Autumn’s grip…
….ahhh!! @ the fossil-fueled grip on our democracy, that not only strangleholds congressional climate progress, but also chokes back initiative on seemingly every life-supporting policy. Wednesday’s a great day to channel and share your rage, bright and crisp as the change in the air.

🍂Thursday’s clear-eyed sunny and alive in the leaves. Breathing in like a calm breeze. Emeralds hanging in the sun’s translucency. With a single russet ruby. Of more than your DC-variety oak and maple. Beautiful diversity in rarity and staple. Chattering overhead in coordinated fashions. Teachers together of growth and change in action.
There could be a cloud or two crawl by in the afternoon, but generally clear from there till the waning crescent moon. Great for 20,000+ birds migrating overhead. I overheard this all as tweeted gossip between a robin and bluejay trilling the tea on the balcony. Reminding me, like the birds, and leaves, all the colors in between, each of our coordinated collectivities– are how we face the climate emergency.

🍎
Mainly sunny
Plainly bright
Sky’s hues runny
Take a bite
Crisp and juicy
Friday’s an apple
Harvested loosely
As Autumn’s ample
In October’s orchard
On top of the first plot
To decarbonize and restore
Join The People’s Watch
To turn the heat up on “leaders”
Who choose to turn the heat up on us
Can’t stop won’t stop
For climate justice
Through a gorgeous weekend
Lighter and warmer
For whatever you tend
In whatever corner
Of whatever place –
Georgia Ave you retake
Mumbo beat you trace
Or your Southeast Porchfest break –
Take this opportunity
To take care, nurturing nature
In Community.
