Happy Pollinator Week amid everything else also always happening! Here’s an early draft of a sing-along dance-along children’s fairytale lyric I wrote as a gift that didn’t make the cut (the diction in this one is too high-level for the intended audience and this one doesn’t include the dance-along instruction). However, I still like how this hits and wanted to share.
"The hum of bees is the voice of the garden"
– Elizabeth Lawrence
Beeautiful Flower Power Dance Lyric
Buzz upon a time You girls are twirling in the garden Avoiding helping set dinner, world-exploring In weeds, grasses, clovers, herbs, and flowers Inside sweet purples, pinks, golds, and reds scattered Colors like the best-crafts-ever-made call you like a carnival Turning into a bzzzzzZZZZZZZZing alarm ringing like a scary bell BUT it's a magic, bee-witching you both into fairies— and this is your fairytale. Buzz buzz upon a bit after, you wake up as fairies and flap your little wings Floating up HUMONGOUS towers, you see HUGE petals, part of GINORMOUS flowers. You’ve been SHRUNKEN! The size of bees, as you can see, from two bees you-sized In front of you, in the center of the flower, you meet who beecome your guides: The larger says “Hiyeee— I'm Bee-atrice!” The smaller says "Hiyeee I'm Bee-linda!” The larger says “but you can call me Trish” and the smaller says “and you can call me Linda” You say "Hiyeee Beeeee—Linda and Trish!" twirling and introducing yourselves too two fairies and two bees, you dance and swish, listening to the world speakthrough They say, our hum sounds like the garden Sounds kinda funny yet sweet Kinda like this little story. Like pollen sticks— then the bees Trish and Linda give you a hand Teaching you this buzzy dance Bumble, turn, and twirl little fairies Sometimes nature feels a little scary A little like BEES can be A little like WE can be Bumble, turn, twirl little fairies Sometimes nature tells a little story Buzz upon helping the bees, work goes by quickly at it together, and dancing through it You help gather a golden flower fairy dust, though you don’t know what they’ll do with it They call it Pollen and they point you to all the Good Flowers with it on it Which you can't really see, you see, it's an ultra-violet secret A special ability bees have grown, shared by butterflies, that let's them see colors on flowers people can't sight So they can trade with flowers, pollen for pollen, share what they have, and both grow on it More beautiful, more scented, electric-charged Like invisible electric force fields sensed from afar They say, our hum's always buzzed like a garden At least, for millions of billions of years And billions of trillions of flowers and helping human food flower-too Giving a little sweet beauty to get a little sweet and let the world get along sweeter and more beautifully Like what you two today are doing, too Bumble, turn, and twirl little fairies Sometimes nature feels a little wowee A little like BEES can be A little like WE can be Bumble, turn, twirl little fairies Sometimes nature tells a little story Wiggle, waggle, and spin in the airy Shake your bumbles together merrily Shake and share like pollen Bees, flowers, all of it Wiggle, waggle, and spin in the airy Dance together buzzing merrily Buzz upon a dome the bees call their hive They open hive-doors to a golden wonderland of honeycomb wax walls Where disco hexagon pattern lace, the place Linda and Trish call home When they say Hiyeee to the hive and greet you, they tell this story of our meeting in each scene They bumble and turn— give out pollen while they're at it, wiggling and waggling Spinning up a dancing storm with more and more bees joining You join the whirling and wheee-ing You're a part of the hive all about buzzing Your smiles fly like dancing bees Enjoying and joining in the beautiful sweet dancing story Bumble, turn, and twirl everyone Sometimes nature is a lot of fun A little like beeing can be A little like wheeing can be Bumble, turn, twirl little fairies Sometimes nature tells a little story Wiggle, waggle, and spin in the airy Shake your bumbles together merrily Shake and share like pollen Hives of bees, flowers of gardens Wiggle, waggle, and spin in the airy Dance together buzzing merrily Buzz upon after the dance party, bee-coming people-sized again After saying goodbyeeee to bees and hive, you girls return to the garden You race inside, still dancing, your smiles fly like fairy wings Jumping in to help set dinner, eager to help with anything Inside sweet purples, pinks, golds, and reds glowing Going around the table like pollen, sharing thanks and laughter Giving like a garden, like honey, a sweet family growing You thank the bees and family, ending thankfully ever after.
