Consilience, defined:
Merriam Webster’s defines Consilience as: the linking together of principles from different disciplines especially when forming a comprehensive theory
Wikipedia defines Consilience as: in science and history, consilience is the principle that evidence from independent, unrelated sources can "converge" on strong conclusions.
Our changing climate defines Consilience as: all at once, observed increasing incidence of atmospheric and ocean heat from increasing emissions from burning fossil fuels driving more drought, wildfire, hurricanes, sea level rise, storm surge and damage, flooding, ocean acidification, species extinction, famine, water scarcity, ecosystem loss, infectious diseases, oppression, death and destruction; the multiplicities of cascading risk crashing on an intensely unbalanced society, the signals of the noise.
Consilience
Everything's coming together
While everything’s apart falling
Diverging on extreme weather
Converging on its meaning
They say our climate’s always changed
In the same breath they say let’s keep things as is
But because of the way they’ve maintained
This— it gets WORSE from greenhouse gases
I hex these lines of predatory delay
From circling vulture capitalists
Let their lies burn, melt, and decay
And let the truth be our catalyst
Do you need a word for it?
We call upon: Consilience
In layman’s, it's just obvious
In reality - how could you miss it?
With our everything coming together
Sure, even now you can still look away
But when every way comes back to the center
The center cannot hold our climate change
Where it all ties back to a single thing and
Multiple, unrelated, independent sources verify
With agreement from so many differences intermingling and
Yet a single conclusion you can still hide
I hex the culture that stuck heads in the sand
Put there by greedy narcissistic villains
Let this hex join the calls and climate action demands
And let the truth uprise with billions
Do you need a word to name it?
We call the Spirit of Consilience
In layman’s, it’s just the painfully obvious
In our reality - how could you miss it?
Breaking records? Missed it
Devastating— and ever more so? Missed it
Hotter? Wetter? Muddier? Missed it
Multiplied threats? More extreme? This is it
No more shall you see no climate nor hear no climate
Reality is like a lipstick, you put yours on and kiss it
No more shall you see no limit, hear no limit
You now trust the emergent scientific consensus
I hex any denial my own heart could belie
Together against these hardbound realities
Let this hex open all our hearts and minds
And wake to action through our bodies
Do we need a fancy name for it?
We call this Consilience
Converging lines of consensus
Unfortunately, you can’t miss it
Like magic: Consilience
We name this phenomena to own it
But big words won’t solve this, only resilience
And maybe the world’s courage consilient.
