A Musical September Week in Washington, DC
Monday, September 20th, 2021
Monday sounds like the birdsong outside the window. Chirping warmth early in between intervals of sun and clouds, then fluttering with the calm wind district canopy-round. Afternoon drips into swampy September seventies under considerably cloudier skies between 3 PM and sundown. Sunset sets the stage aglow at 7 PM.
The full Autumn Moon Monday night is a lighthouse signaling close to whatâs supposedly the Calendar End of Summer. With September dancing between Summerâs stretch and Autumnâs crisp, let this moon mean whatever you want it to mean. Sing along to birdsong, dance under the moonlight, do what you will. September Summer still.

Tuesday turns up the volume in ways
Cranking up cloudiness on another overcast day
Between Hi 81°F and Lo 71°F, with temps staying
Midrange as the cloud cover keeps on keyboard-playing
Over the song of any bit of sunlightâs usual shine
Instead we get an even-spread gray-glow like a steady bassline
Sounds good for an even-lit photo, or for balancing your path
Guiding a clear way between Tuesdayâs triumph and wrath
So
Hum with the crescendos
Add your own rising tune
If youâre free, march for Citizenship, Care, and Climate to welcome back Congress at noon.

Wednesdayâs song drips, drops, booms, and flashesâ scattering showers and thunderstorms through a musical midday to evening. You can add your song to the dayâs, mixing sounds of your rain slicker puckering against each droplet, your boots splashing in pattering puddles, and your umbrellaâs canvas thrumming in 10-20 mph wind blows. Play on, maestros!
To celebrate the Autumnal Equinox / Calendar End of Season, this liminal time between climate-underlined changes, hereâs a playlist I made for you: âEnd of Summer/Endless Summer.â A lyricscape bottling weather over the seasons and a soundscape spilling over the DC landscape: itâs just vibes.

Rain rain (to the tune of the nursery rhyme)
Rain rain, this Thursday
Come again another day
Rain rain, that-a-way
Thunderstorms also stray
Rain rain, half-an inch they say
Floodplain another day
Rain rain, cloudy grays
All across the Beltway
Rain rain, increasing range
By human influence swayed
Rain rain, olâ cliche
Rearranged by climate change
Rain rain, Green New Day
Come again? Letâs start today.

đ¶ đ” Fridayâs music sounds like a chant
A refrain, a phrase, and lovesong as rant
To the mostly sunny tune of calm breezes and high of mid-seventies
The perfect weather-step into Autumn fighting inequities
The perfect day to #UprootTheSystem from where you are
The perfect time to #GlobalClimateStrike with friends and fam, even from afar
And join in action â if in-person in DC, we can chant together
In the middle of seasonal changes from Summer to Fall weather.
This weekend thereâs a cool Climate District Hunt game happening, scavenging the distance
Tying what we want (Climate Justice) when we want it (Now) to how (with Joy in the Resistance).
