Nice Climate You Have There
I remember the moon in Texas sky like a playdoh mold
pressing my childhood through various crescent shapes
I remember the sheen oil rainbow pavement the shame
driving myself away from where I was born and raised
I remember the drivers (inside), the highways (outside),
the overpasses (above AND below) high I guess also the
culture-constructed systems of unsustainable want (inside)
I remember the infinity of car lip syncing with friends
along stark starless suburban streets I remember finding
what I remember in what bits of nature nurturing me, yet
I remember STEM camp field trips to halliburton fracking rigs
I remember leaving Texas for DC needing more trees
and real seasons— I remember reaping each of these
Snowmageddan, Snowpocalypse, and Polar Vortexes
I remember tracing blooms of fossil fuel gaslight flume turning
I remember the world's changing because of burnings
hurting all health. But I still remember above all the wide open
skyscapes of my youth, rolling possibilities of light.
