Pastoral Washington, DC December Weather
Monday, December 6th, 2021
Monday is climbing like winter jasmine, warming, clouding, and by afternoon possibly raining— so you may need your rain jacket. Temperatures climb to high-60s highs, above-average for winter like the last five decades due to fossil fueled climate change and urbanization. Clouds climb through the day casting about blue-grey winter tones, from partly to mostly cloudy to occasional precipitation. Hermit thrushes climb 10-20mph winds, possibly riding more damaging gusts up to 35mph strong. All the while singing their melancholic Monday song.
Tuesday, December 7th, 2021
Tuesday is stiffening and bright like winterberry holly; frost-tipped and colder, but stretching skyward to catch those partly sunny, calm, cool, and breezy vibes. If you thought Monday was a solar-coaster of relative warmth for December, here’s your heads-up to expect more of that to come Saturday. Until then, Tuesday feels firmly winterish between 30s-40s°F. By afternoon, the sky clouds-up some. And if freezing upper atmosphere temperatures stick, we could get a few flurries or snow showers later at night. If you hear that faint beat outside sky-strewn, go-on and nod your salutations to the downy woodpecker tap tap tapping Tuesday’s tune.

Wednesday is cold and facing whichever way’s brightest, like a pansy catching snowflakes in the sidewalk planter; underneath an early blanket of clouds shedding precipitation between 7 AM to Noon. With temperatures rooted in the 30s, we should see our cloud cover shake out early snow showers down and around the area, which may mix into a mid-air melt towards rain. Still, layer up just with the chill temps, even if the precipitation may only be light enough to peck the ground and slip away. Kept cozy sheltered under canopy cover, a couple of cardinals come out during a clearer evening tweeting Wednesday’s anthem.

Thursday is spreading sleek like camellia petals; an early mix of sun and cloud swirl and bloom above, deepening in richness through the day as more clouds blossom into the afternoon. With temperatures starting in the 30s, silver lines slink down into the city, draping a milky layer of light like chiffon over DC that barely lifts temperatures to highs in the low-to-mid-40s around 2 PM. A sparrow humming Thursday’s hymn, comes out of hiding within a narrow crook of Union Station’s front awning. She dives into the cloudy evening, spreading wings and song like our sky alive.

Friday is a DC pastoral poem with winter flowering and birds singing Amid above-average warmth and ongoing climate emergency bells ringing With highs 10-degrees warmer than average, and Saturday’s gaining 20 more Friday’s riding a light sunlit breeze, on which Saturday soars With slight chances of rain between each Friday’s and Saturday’s afternoon-to-evening Take a moment to drink up each day, drink water, stretch, enjoy, and breath-in With skies mixing sun and clouds both days, it’s a monument weekend start To marvel over marble morning skies and early evening sunsets pink and tart.
