September Weather Yeah!ffirmations for Currently
Climate & Weather Affirmation Poetry for Washington, DC
Hi there, I’m writing weather reports for Currently’s Washington, DC newsletter from my poetic climate lense. This week, you get rhyming affirmation poems— a simple form I made-up and call Yeah!ffirmations. Here are some climate-specific Yeah!ffirmations I’ve shared here before. I technically have a whole other poetry blog of those here rarely-updated. And here’s more about Currently:
Currently is a weather service for the era of climate change
Currently is a free subscription weather service — delivering daily weather poetry to your inbox, and connecting you with interactive weather alerts and real-time climate context straight to your phone. We’re a community of people sharing resources and delivering justice, hope, safety, and resilience in a world in urgent need of systemic action.
Follow your nearest city’s FREE Currently weather forecast here. Currently Founder Eric Holthaus curates a great Twitter feed specific to the most critical weather updates to the moment for Currently— so feel free to follow there too.
For following me, I’ll regularly round-up my DC poem forecasts for your convenience. If you’re not already subscribed, you can below.
(An August &) September Yeah!ffirmations
Since it was a short week with the Labor Day holiday-off, I’m including a past August Yeah!ffirmation from another Monday to round-out the week. Time is a social construct, anyway. Don’t worry, the story all ties together at a garden riot at the end—

A Mostly Sunny Monday Affirmation
Like Monday’s weather, I am mostly sunny
Even when “mostly” doesn’t apply
Even if there’s a stray cloud, honey
I will breeze through a Lo of 66°F & an 84°F Hi
I am strong, stretching like the start of this week
Rays reaching towards getting everything planned
I am affirmed in the District’s sun, sweating goldenrod sweet
& no matter what the week brings, I withstand
I am determined, taking it day by day
Sharing tomorrow’s foresight– Currently
As more join us on our journey to change
With A-New-World-Is-Possible certainty

A Sunny Tuesday Affirmation
I am sunny, like Tuesday’s weather
Beautiful, cheerful, & bright
A Summer 80s day in September
I am the Sun’s split energy of heat & light
I am the warmth I wanted this past weekend
Yet I am grateful for what I got— no regrets
Living through a warmer & wetter season
I stay at it & just breeze & sweat
I am both broad daylight & clear evening
Like the New Moon with the Sun, I hold the past & the course
Coneflower in the dark, in a community garden interweaving
I stay hydrated & centered— towards a solar source.

A Sun & Cloud Mixed Wednesday Affirmation
Like Wednesday, I am mixed sun & clouds
More humid, with shower chances, 66° Lo / 86° Hi
I am likely the warmest the week allows
Tracing my day across ridges of the sky
I am carrying an umbrella this afternoon
Especially if showers become thunderstorms
If winds gust, I wrap into my cocoon
Getting through by folding into other forms
I am focused on what I can control, not doom-mania
Foresight forecasts I will seize the day
Balanced on one flower on the head of hydrangea
No mix of weather could dampen my Wednesday.

An Overcast Thursday Affirmation
Like the weather, I am an overcast Thursday
Partly cloudy, partly shining, partly bold
With clouds & slight rain chances over the Beltway
I am the sun scattering through manifold
I am the good light that finds you for that selfie
In the cloud cover smoothing bright whites with soft blues
I am naturally cast over Washington, DC
In even-toned milky marble hues
Parting into an evening mostly clear
I am lavender pointing skyward to make a point
No matter how nice the weather is here
Our climate is still out of joint.

A Sunny Friday Affirmation
Like the weather, I am a Sunny Friday
I am radiating energy spilling forth
Call it a solar-spill, or just another sunny day
Temperatures should be mild for what it’s worth
Hi 78°F / Lo 57°F gatekeeps a warmer weekend
Before we get together to break down the barrier
Getting through Friday’s mostly clear afternoon & evening
To burst through into the weekend like warriors
I am at the rendezvous spot, but it’s quiet
Where Lavender, Coneflower, Hydrangea, & Goldenrod said to meet
To join the movement to #Call4Climate
Growing with each heart & heartbeat.
