Stripe-up [#ShowYourStripes]
An Ekphrastic Climate Poem, Inspired by 2023 (Global) Warming Stripes
Stripe-up
a conversation
about the world
changes wrought
from Future thieves
still in the act
with your world
talk to your circles
share your concern
share your hopes
share the causes
blame the bosses
but dare to change
don’t just watch it
like a man-god does
share your vision
share what you’ll do
share what you’re doing
between more than Me
& You know what’s important
understates the stakes
because we don’t spell
Existence in the same way
as fossil fools & drill-pigs
pigmenting in blood stippling
drops precaritized more than jenga blocks
rage-spread deep into the red
until it’s impossible not to
ask how do I hold this altogether?
This picture of 100 years
of weather changing
in changing climate
conditions fume-warped
now time to rise our own tides
ride to the streets demanding
these aren’t demands
or even suggestions
more like half-baked
questions to ponder
to be a lover
in the fighting
for the world.

Here’s an Ekphrastic poem inspired by the 2022 version of these same warming stripes graphics.
